AND THE WINNER IS:
*Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m 23 and I grew up in sunny Southern California with my parents and my 2 brothers. I moved to Portland a year ago to explore a new place and attend Portland State University. I work at a local non-profit in downtown Portland and I have an amazing view of the Willamette River from my backyard where I spend a lot of time sipping lemonade on Saturday afternoons with my boyfriend, Lee.
*How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
I wanted everyone to know that every craft I create I make with care and attention to detail. I love my crafts and I love Portland so everything I make is “From Portland, with love.”
*What or who inspires you?
My inspiration comes from the women in my family and their love for decorating, especially around the holidays. My flowers are just another personal touch that I can add to their Christmas trees, decorative displays and centerpieces.
*What are 5 things you want people to think when they see your product?
- “That would look great with my.....”
- “Can I get 15 of those in reds and yellows?”
- “I wish I had the patience for that!”
- "I've never seen anything like that before!"
*What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
Paper! It’s taken me many years to figure out that paper is by far my favorite medium. As a life long lover of books and music it’s just natural that I would incorporate them somehow into my craft.
*Do I have any family Christmas traditions:
Do I ever! My family absolutely loves the holiday season. On Christmas we always go to my Grandma's house for brunch and more present opening. We stay for the day, socialize and eat treats. Then after dinner we all gather in the living room and either my uncle sits down at the grand piano and plays the "12 days of Christmas" and we all (from the littlest cousins to my grandma and grandpa) do a ridiculous dance that my aunt (who happens to be an elementary school teacher) made up for us years ago. Someone always video tapes and it is so incriminating! It's a lot of fun and it keeps us laughing every year.
*Is there a favorite food that you and your family enjoy during the holidays?
Other than the impressive spread of assorted cookies and treats my personal favorite is my dad's famous cheeseball. We only make it once a year at Christmas and it is a family favorite. A combination of several different cheeses, peppers and nuts spread on a cracker. Mmm! My favorite!
*What is the best part of Christmas for you?
The best part of Christmas for me is that it's right next to my birthday! My birthday is the 21st so it ends up being just a fun filled week full of my favorite people, favorite foods and present time. Who doesn't love that?!
*Which Christmas item in your shop did you enjoy making the most and why?
I enjoyed making the wreath the most. It takes considerably longer than the other things in my shop so I can really enjoy designing it and putting extra effort into it. I love it because it reminds me of something my mom would buy at a craft sale so I'm going to beat her to it and give it to her for Christmas. :)
